Main Avenue South Project

2nd and Main Intersection

This project was on Main Avenue S and Bronson Way S, from S 3rd Street to Mill Avenue S. Part of a multi-phase effort, the objectives of which are to improve downtown traffic circulation, as well as improve the business and pedestrian environment.

This phase of the project converted Main Avenue S and Bronson Way S from one-way to two-way operation. Changing to two-way operations improved access to businesses and reduced vehicle speeds, which benefits pedestrian safety, comfort, and mobility. The redesign of Main Avenue S shortened pedestrian crossing distances at intersections, added landscaping, and urban design amenities. Traffic improvements included upgraded pedestrian ramps and crosswalks, street lighting and traffic signal upgrades, and streetscape elements such as street trees.

The project was awarded to Jansen, Inc. Construction began February 6th. The intersection and roadway were opened to traffic in August 2017 and construction was completed in February 2018.

The estimated overall total project cost was $3.4 million. This project, phase 1, received a Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant in the amount $1,143,912 for construction.
