A-FRAME SIGN REGULATIONS

A-Frame Permit Application

All businesses are allowed to display A-frame signs with a valid permit. The permit will cost $100.00 for the first A-frame sign, and $50.00 for each additional sign. Permit numbers will be required on each sign, in the upper left-hand corner of the exterior face of the sign. Businesses which operate from a home or residential complex will not be permitted to use A-frame signs, except for real estate A-frame signs, which fall under different regulations.

The maximum size of an A-frame sign is 32 inches wide and 36 inches tall. All signs shall be professionally manufactured, maintained in good repair, and no attachments to the signs are permitted. In addition, all signs shall be removed from display when the business closes each day.

For pedestrian safety, businesses located within the City Center Sign Regulation Area, will be required to place the A-frame sign against the building, maintaining a pedestrian walkway of a minimum of four (4) feet of unobstructed sidewalk clearance.

Businesses outside the City Center Sign Regulation Area may display one sign per street frontage and one sign against the building the business operates from. The sign may be placed on the sidewalk or within the landscape abutting the business. The pedestrian clearance is a minimum of four (4) feet of unobstructed space between the outer edge of the sign and outer edge of the sidewalk. In no case can an A-frame sign be placed on the landscape strip between the outer edge of the sidewalk and the street curb. Landscaping cannot be modified or damaged to accommodate an A-frame sign.

A-Frame sign applications can be downloaded here and are also available at the City's Building Permit Center on the 6th floor of Renton City Hall, located at 1055 S. Grady Way. Samples of the Proof of Insurance, Hold Harmless Agreement, Display Regulations, and a map of the City Center Sign Regulation Area are also available. If you have questions regarding the sign regulations please call (425) 430-7200.
