The City of Renton knows that time and predictability are key ingredients for business success. Renton has established a reputation in the region as a jurisdiction that is responsive in processing building permits and land use applications in a fast and efficient manner. The City has worked hard to create both an environment and business plan goals that support business development while enhancing the quality of life in the Renton community. The City offers free preliminary project review upon written request. The proposed project is routed to all major departments for comments and an interview is set-up with the applicant to discuss the application as proposed and any specific requirements, needs or constraints associated with the site. This review allows the applicant to receive vital information prior to formal site plan submittal.
From the time the City receives a completed application, simple land use applications are completed in six to eight weeks; new commercial construction permit processing time typically takes eight to twelve weeks. (Sample administrative and environmental land use review process and timeline [1 GB]) Additional time is necessary for projects requiring hearing examiner review or when decisions are appealed to the City Council. You may obtain a copy of building permit applications and forms, land use applications and submittal requirements, preliminary project review submittal requirements and general assistance at the public information counter on the 6th Floor of Renton City Hall.
